I am finding out that HR is a revolving door of first times. I picked up on the steady, weekly routines, but every once in a while there is a first time that swoops in unannounced. When I was making the switch to HR, someone told me that I would always be involved in the special cases and that has proven true. The hard part for me is that when it’s a special case or first time there is not as much precedent on what to do. You have to look for similarities with issues in the past and do your best to use company policy to inform decisions that need to be made. While I like the mental side of this decision making, I am not seasoned enough to feel confident in every decision that needs to be made. I am sure that will come with time.
